Overview

Following three rounds of extensive consultation with local people and stakeholders, an outline planning application for a mixed-use development at the former Barnhill Quarry site in Chipping Sodbury, was submitted to South Gloucestershire Council in July 2010. An amended set of planning Application Drawings and Documents was lodged with South Gloucestershire Council on 22.12 2010.

A resolution to grant outline planning permission was made at the Planning Committee meeting of South Gloucestershire Council’s Development Control committee on Thursday 23 June 2011 for a mixed-use development at the former Barnhill Quarry site in Chipping Sodbury.

The proposed development will include a Waitrose store, a pedestrian link between the store and the High Street, and 170 houses on the former Barnhill Quarry site. The Developers are hoping that Work will commence on site in Spring 2012 subject to obtaining a Reserved Matters consent in late Autumn of this year.

Chelverton Deeley Freed and their project team would like to thank all those who engaged in the consultation process. The intention now is to create a well planned, sustainable development which will transform the former Barnhill Quarry and bring significant benefits to the local community including improved shopping facilities, new employment opportunities, with the potential for up to 160 jobs within the foodstore itself, and much needed housing.
